Blue Moon Tavern
A legendary dive bar and live music venue in the U-District, continuously operating since 1934, known as a historic hangout for Beat poets, writers, and musicians.
History: Opened April 15, 1934, by Henry 'Hank' John Reverman, exactly one mile from the University of Washington, right after Prohibition ended. Became a renowned hangout for poets, beats, radicals, artists, and writers including Theodore Roethke, Richard Hugo, Carolyn Kizer, Dylan Thomas, and Allen Ginsberg. Sheltered UW professors caught up in the McCarthyist purge. A 1989 redevelopment attempt was derailed by community activists led by Walt Crowley, though 1990 landmark status bid failed. One of Seattle's oldest continuously operating bars.
