Moore Theater
Seattle's oldest active theater, opened in 1907 and designated a National Historic Place in 1974. An 1,800-seat performing arts venue operated by Seattle Theatre Group, hosting Broadway shows, concerts, comedy, dance, and lectures.
History: Opened December 28, 1907 with a performance of The Alaskan, a Yukon-themed operetta. Built for real estate developer James A. Moore and designed by architect E. W. Houghton. Originally seated 2,436, making it one of the largest theatres in the U.S. at the time. On opening night, capacity was boosted to nearly 3,000 with standing room. The Moore Theatre and Hotel was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. It is Seattle's oldest active theater and a designated Seattle landmark.
